The Magic Behind Our Steam Trains, a Magic Kingdom park tour ($40), explores Walt Disney’s passion for steam trains, while giving Guests the opportunity to join the opening crew as they prepare for the daily railroad operation at the MAGIC KINGDOM.
The tour highlight is the train trip back to the roundhouse with an up-close and personal look at one or more of our locomotives, but the experience is also rich in history about Walt Disney's lifelong fascination with steam trains, how WDW acquired their four old locomotives, and the operating procedures they follow to serve the annual ridership of over 3 million. As a souvenir, guests used to get an actual spike from the railroad prior to 9/11 however when airport security began to confiscate these spikes, they began giving out this pin.
This tour has been at WDW since October 1999. It is offered Monday, Thursday and Saturdays at the MK turnstiles. The tour that starts at 7:30, ends between 1:00 and 2:00 PM. If they have enough guests to book a second tour, it will start at 9:00 and end at 3:00. On the first tour, you are picked up, by the train, at the Mainstreet station on the first run of the day, before the park opens.
It is 1 1/4" wide by 1 1/2" high.
This pin is currently (9/05) issued on a different backer card. Shown in the picture (bottom pin)
The card has a side shot of the "Roger Broggie". It has a green border with the "Walt Disney Railroad" written on the top, and the words "Magic Behind our Steam Trains" on the bottom. It is a 4 1/2 inch card. You also get a personal name badge at the start of the tour.
